Broken Lens
I’m trying to do this effect for my school’s sports highlight video and we have this shot of a golfer whacking a ball from a distance and i want to have the golf back fly and hit the camera lens, cracking the lens.
I know how to make the CG ball fly but what’s the best approach for the broken glass? distortion filter and masks?thanks.

The easiest way would be with the “shatter”-plugin
(could have a out of focus copy of the comp as your background)vanderzee.tv

You could make an image of the cracked glass, making each section a different shade of gray. Then you could use that as a displacement map for the footage. Each section would shift the footage slightly.
You could download this map.
And yes, if the shards were sharp, the footage would be out of focus. 🙂
