  Broken Iris

  I’ve got one of my cameras that is sick. The iris doesn’t work. When adjusted, the monitor suggests that the iris is changing but it is stuck on F14. It’s in the shop now and the tech said that one choice is to replace the whole lens assembly at $2200. He then went on to say that when the camera gets hot the lubricant in the iris can actually leak out. It’s possible that it could have leaked out on the iris fins and now it is actually stuck. If this can be fixed I won’t have to have the whole lens replaced. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? If you are out there Jan, is this a common problem?
