I got my copy of SVP12 and it seems to have broken GPU acceleration in both SVP11 and 12.

Everytime I attempt to render a clip with a stretch, a plugin (sony defocus, gaussian blur etc.) It fails at random points. However the points it fails at are very similar, but it will render past some points, and fail at different points on different attempts. Everytime I have to end SVP11 or 12 and then restart it, wait and wait to reload, then try again – rinse repeat.

This is SOOO frustrating, I can’t believe it broke SVP11 as well, they both do not crash, it simply states an amount of time remaining and when that hits zero it is still stuck on that frame and sits for eternity. This is the same in both Pre-Render AND Render As..

As soon as I turned off GPU acceleration they render out with no issue.

In both 11 and 12, I did find it would render with GPU if NO effects were on any clips, and I think I had to also change the stretch to a velocity envelope, – there is a massive amount of issues remaining there, I can’t tell if it is due to the clips I have or what!? but I KNOW this is a SVP 12 issue, that has WORSENED the situation, I had similar weirdness with 1 or 2 stretched clips in SVP11 BEFORE I installed SVP12, now this, it is SO MADDENING.

Ohh, I should point out that I had a schitzo set of drivers installed, (I run an HD Radeon 6770) and NBFX reported I had an older version lurking under the newer catalyst so I cleaned it all off and installed 12.10 – no difference, except now all my window positioning is forgotten and I hate that!

How are you disabling the GPU acceleration? To disable it for rendering you have to do that in the customize template in the Render As dialog. The Preferences Video tab GPU setting is for preview. It might help to troubleshoot to know which GPU methods were disabled.

I see your point Mark, but when the GPU for Preview is disabled in Options, the files render out, go figure?

I wonder if the problem is with the GPU acceleration displaying on the screen, and hence more video driver related. I would suspect that the GPU for the render is more about calculations to determine the contents of the rendered file and hence does not have to interact with the video driver in the same way.

Yer, this is where it is weird, it is like it is getting to a point where it simply is overwhelmed (the GPU), I noticed in other threads that heat can be an issue, I am restoring my system today back to before I changed the driver, and I have cleaned out my case, it turned out I had a bad case fan.

Just another thought…I run Folding at Home on my GPU and that keeps it at 99% utilization (when I am not editing). I run an app for NVidia that bumps up the fan speed to keep it cooler. I also have 4 big fans in my case in addition to a large CPU/chipset fan and power supply fan. I wanted to avoid making the leap to liquid cooling and worrying about leaks.
