broadcast workflow from 422 FCP
Hello all.
My question: Will i come across any potential problems during this workflow -betacam the final product?
I’ve been reading a lot of what people wrote here.
i’ve read from many posts: mixed formats on one timeline. i.e. 24f into a 60i or 60i into 24f, pulldowns, etc…
well. my formats include
60i w/ XHA1
30F w/ XHA1
24F w/ XHA1
HDV??? from HV30captured with HV30
—-i tested a decent workflow:
capture: HDV-appleprores422
sequence: same as above
output sequence codec: same as aboveprior tests included XDCAM, and QT direct from FCP. Both worked, but quality was lacking. Prores4222 (LT) looked decent.

So far, with prores422 quality is really good. My question: i plan to output a 4 minute video from FCP to betacam in NTSC land. The video contains color but mostly black and white.one post-house said, “as long as output is apple prores” everything is ok. it was so easily answered, so i’m very doubtful they know what they’re talking about.
What am i concerned about off the bat are in regards to file settings?
1. pulldowns. When i sent the file thru compressor- there was no problems-“progressive” etc.. but i have a feeling this will creep up on me later.
2. prores422. Once the file is output from with the prores422 w/ 29.97. are there any additional compressions necessary?
3. quality- any hints, that’s all
4. should i have done, something else besides422, for example 1080i30p as that final output from fcp and compressor? i tried 1080 60i and 1080 30p.- not so great.If there are any links i should read up on, I’m all ears. Been making tons of mistakes, and had i not made these mistakes, most of what is written on this website would not make sense.
4. i’m guessing pulldown is what i should be worried next.

“Yes, you will most likely encounter numerous problems. Mixing all of the various framerates you’ve listed is not easy, even for experts, and it’s fraught with potential issues that could easily get your master tape rejected.
It’s clear that you are relatively new to FCP and this workflow, and we have no idea how you’re monitoring and what type of hardware and or I/O device you’re using either. So, I honestly think it’s highly unlikely that you will receive the full and complete training here on the Cow necessary to get you through this potential quagmire, and I would suggest that you hire an experienced editor or consultant.

I think i am on the right path. ;p
to make the framesize at 1920 x 1080i should i be selecting a prores422 1920×1080 30p? or change settings in the compressor’s geometry section? i’m guessing its the before not latter. i’m gonna test this in a few hours.

I’m guessing the blackcard will assist in downrez HD to SD.

This is what I thought Richard, and the biggest problem for you will be that you can’t see the field/interlace issues that will crop up with the various framerates you’re working with. You must have an I/O card, a proper monitor, and the knowledge to deal with these matters.
