We’re rendering a whole load of footage that needs to be broadcast safe.

Instead of taking up hours of FCP’s rendering time, is there a way to get this process to happen outside, like in Compressor or in Quicktime, or any other standalone app?

This way while it’s rendering in the background we can use FCP at the same time

You can legalise in Apple Color. But proper RGB legalising can be a can of worms. The best way is using hardware. Either Eyeheight or Harris worth a look but expensive option. You may be able to hire. Obviously designed for tape based output though so depends on your delivery format.

    best wishes

Export a self contained quicktime. Drop the file into a sequence and send to Color. In the Project settings tab tick Broadcast Safe and make sure ceiling is on 100 floor is 0 and chroma 50.

Render the file and send back to FCP and it is ready to output to tape or the render file can be used as the master. Never had a tech reject when using those settings.

I recall Walter Biscardi did a tutorial on using Color as a stand alone broadcast safe processor. If not Walter someone else and it was either in this forum or the old Color forum.

    Thanks, didn’t think of Color!
