I couldn’t find a proper section for this and since I’m using FCPX I’d figured I’d ask here. I am finishing up an Ad that will broadcast and I’m trying to get a certain look. I want some area’s to be overblown with a flare type look. The problem I run into is that I have my look, I add the broadcast safe filter, or try to tune down the white clipping with the color corrector, and it looks like crap.

Is it just a matter of playing and tweaking to get something close to what I want? Or does anyone have any tips? How do movie’s and tv shows that use strong lens flares or blowouts not cause problems?

Make sure the broadcast safe filter is “downstream” of everything. You can do this by adding a adjustment layer generator as a connected clip (search for free ones or use Basic Title and remove any text) and then apply the safe filter as an effect to this clip.
