I have some footage from a performance piece I recorded that desperately needs to be brightened. Would you recommend increasing the brightness; raising the color luminance, or compositing the clip with a duplicate of itself in “add” mode? Are anyone of these methods better than the others; and, are there any that I have not hit upon, that may be helpful?

    Thanks in advance.

Duplicating the layer and setting “Add” mode you will get an unlawful-broadcast monstrosity.
You can try the 3W-Color Correction filter. Have a look in the manual to see how it works.

    This doesn’t exist.

    Thanks for the advice.

Sorry, what I had meant was to adjust the luminance sliders within the 3-way color corrector.
