Does anyone know a good technique for animating a branding iron logo forming on wood? I don’t need the iron, just the after burn thing forming.

If you go to the first trailer, right in the beginning there’s the Rockstar logo. I’m looking for something similar, if not that.

Create some fractal noise or draw a black/white image in Photoshop and use that as the input for a Transition > Gradient Wipe effect on your ‘brander’ layer. You could also use Stylize > Roughen Edges to add some roughness after the fact, and if you’re feeling adventurous play with some blending modes such as ‘Classic Color Burn’ (a very intense blending mode, use a low opacity).
