It appears that your vendors had no ideas what they were doing and just chucked all the parts you wanted into the box and prayed for the best, and you’ve been trying to sort things out from that bad start ever since. And, on top of that you’ve continued to add all kinds of plugins in spite of never really fixing the initial problems. You’ll never sort this out the way you’re heading, and as Albert Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing things the same way and hoping for a different outcome.”
Computers are just a bunch of different pieces of hardware cobbled together in a box. If the computer isn’t working there only two reasons why: 1) one or more pieces of the hardware in the box are broken; 2) the software on the computer is broken. That’s it, those are the only two possibilities.
Now that you know there are only two possible problems, you have only two ways of finding a solution: 1) bring the computer back and let the resellers sort it out; 2) perform a very thorough and systematic check of the every component of the new computer from the ground-up. That means stripping the computer down to its bare essentials, reinstalling just the OS, and testing over and over again as you add one piece of hardware back into the system at a time, in an attempt to isolate the problem(s).
That’s how its done… There is no other way. If you’re not prepared to that you’re gonna be hosed and there’s no sense coming back here to complain.

April 19, 2011 at 7:43 pmHi Nicholas.
Did you ever fix the issue? I have had the exact same issue as you and been through various rounds of re-installing and stress testing at Apple in the US.
It has been a complete nightmare and I’ve kind of resigned myself to waiting until the new FCS comes out in June.
Through all the testing by myself, Apple and Tech Serve I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a software issue with Final Cut. I heard that it may have something to do with the 12 cores and that Final Cut doesn’t recognize that? (My details are vague on that point so feel free for someone to correct me).
My setup is two 27″ ACD’s, 2 x 2.93 6-core Xeon Processors, 24 GB RAM and two Radeon HD 5770 graphics cards.
If anyone has any more info on this or Nicholas, if you managed to find out a way to work with it, let me know. Until then I’m just trying to “apple-s” my way to June.
