Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions box behind text

I would like to add a box behind some text.

I have loads of these to make.. and would like the box to grow or shrink with the size of the words..

I can’t work out where to get the width / height of the text. as the layers scale is always 100%.

Can someone give me some pointers please

    Alex

From this, I gather that bounding box info is not available:

You could always Duplicate the text (Ctrl D), then on the bottom layer, Hit the Rectangular Mask Tool, and add the effect, Fill.

Then decrease the y portion of the anchor point to center the filled box below.

I tried to do this as a preset but masks are done as a specific size for the preset, not the text or layer size. Someone could write a script for this, probably rather straight forward, but that’s beyond my pay grade.
