  • boris red 4.3 – how to force progressive render

25i project with film source media, on avid mc5. the footage is in reality progressive.

but all the boris red renders, even from a surely progressive still image source file, have interlace jaggies on the edges. and if i field step through the fields it appears that only one field has been rendered, the other is dropped.

have tweaked with the project settings quite a bit, but there’s no option to force progressive, just “better quality field render.”

    thoughts?

Wouldn’t that mean you set it to No Fields for render?

i’d love to do that – but have not found such a setting. have you?

I’m on 3.0.4 so perhaps the interface has changed.

When you add your comp to the Render Queue you get the Movie Export Settings menu, which has a Fields drop down. From there, you select None.

see, i’m running red off of the timeline of mc 5 – and therefore i’m never seeing that menu.

i guess for kicks i’ll try to render outside of the avid and see if that would help. though of course my love of boris is entirely based on it working from within the NLE.

You’re running Red or Avid FX? Does it have anything under Edit>Preferences>Export Tab?

    it’s red.

edit / preferences / export – has various fields settings, they’re all set to “none.” and my feeling is that these don’t get used when working off of an NLE timeline.

render out of the red to an intermediary file does get me progressive frames – and i DO get the field order, or none, choices on the render menu, i just tried it. but then i’m into the export/import loop that i’m trying to avoid…
