Boris Page Turn in Avid
Hey folks,
Having problems changing the background of my page turn using Boris.
First off, I’m using the Page turn in ‘Distory and Perspective’ as the two input TR doesn’t give me the right controls.
The end result should be that a top page of old paper (1) is peeled off, which has a ‘new paper’ (2) background (as though the old page is glued onto a new page) revealing the next old page (3) underneath.
In order to make this work so far, I’ve got:
V3 – (3 – the next old page)
V2 – (1 – the first old page)
V1 – (2 – the new page background)The transition is applied to V3 – oddly the page I want to reveal
Counter intuitive I know, but this is the only way I can setup the effect to make the first page peel off to reveal the one I want to end up seeing.
The problem is, no matter how I adjust the settings, I can’t get V1 (the back of peel I want to see) to show up. I’ve tried changing the Alternate Back through all options, but nothing works. If I leave it on Filter Layer – it shows me the back of the page that’s peeling off (technically correct, but doesn’t look great) and both 1st below and 2nd below show me the new page as the back.
Any idea what’s going on here?

Hi John,
In the General Controls section in the effects control window did you set the background to be the new background that you wanted to use?

Yeah, i had that set to the right background too. Managed to ‘solve’ the issue by just using the 3D warp page turn in Avid – but it’s not as fluid as the Boris one, and looks nasty.
So no page turn… which is probably a good thing.

Hi John,
This is a surprise as you should have been able to produce the effect that you describe with minimal effort with the BCC Page Turn filter. That you could not generate the effect leads me to conclude that something is not quite right with your system. You might want to either re-install BCC or reach out to tech support to see if they understand the source of the problem and can offer a solution.

Similarly, I want to have page turn, with page 1 turning to reveal page 2 but with a custom back (V3 or a custom color).
I haven’t found a way to accomplish this with just the BCC10 Page Turn TR transition, I only found a way using BCC Page Turn effect, which requires 2 separate tracks for V1 and V2.

Hi,
I know of two ways using Boris FX product to achieve this result :
USING BCC 10 :
(1) stack 3 clips in the MC timeline
(2) apply BCC Page Turn to the top clip in the stack
(3) set the background to be first below
(4) set the alternate layer to be second below
(5) animate the page turn using keyframesor
USING BORIS RED / AVID FX :
(1) in v2 edit two clips together with handles for the transition
(2) in v1 add the alternate layer clip so that it’s beneath the transition
(3) add the Boris RED transition between the clip pair on v2
(4) enter the Boris RED UI and set the top track to be a page turn
(5) set the page turn to use multiple clips instead of a single clip
(6) twirl open the page turn track to reveal the media input for the back
(7) set the media of the back to solid color / video / still etcCheers,
