Boris Red, an amazing program right? I’d like to take advantage of it, keep up with the other editors in my department, and immerse myself in award-winning Boris-assisted success – but I can’t. My link from FCP to Boris Red doesn’t work and never has. I’m running FCP 5.0.4 (just updated today from 5.0.3 – same problem) with Boris 3.0 (tried downloading and installing the 3.0.4 update – didn’t help). The Red standalone engine works fine, but applying a Red transition in FCP is a no go. I can lay the transition down on the timeline (at the juncture of two adjoining clips of course), and double-click it to load it into the viewer, but when I click on the grey “options” button or the red logoed button to open Red nothing happens. The transition on the timeline remains an unrendered nothingness.

We tried (as I said) downloading and installing the Red 3.0.4 update with no good fortune, and we also tried reinstalling Red completely (along with the update again). Alas, no progress. Does Red even work with FCP 5? The editor in the next room uses Red successfully all day long – but he’s cutting on FCP 4.5.

    Any thoughts?

Contact Boris, best bet. All I can tell you is that it does indeed work. Has on my machine since Red’s prototype days with Media 100 and all versions of FCP and Macintosh OS9-10.

Does Boris Red’s interconnect work on any of your other systems?

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I had a similar issue with BorisFX and FCP. Sorry, but I can’t remember exactly what I did to remedy the problem, but I did. I would suggest doing a search in Spotlight for eveything Boris, and then deleting all the files; then re-installing.

Have to ask- is the scrubber ON the transition when you click on it? Boris will NOT open if its not. This actually took me a while to figure out at first,( so don’t say its a silly question):)

    Hmm, good point, derek.
We patiently await response from the original poster.

Ah, a good point indeed – and I take no offense. The answer is yes, the scrubber is on the transition point while the link still fails to work.

    Good thought though.

Well, i have boris 304 on fcp504 and it works fine. Does any Boris Red generators work in fcp for you?

Yes… I was unaware until you asked… If I throw a Boris filter on there it will link over, but the Boris transition will not. Actually (I hate to say it) I just got the Boris transition link to work once – putting the 2nd clip on the track above, but I tried it again further down the pike with different clips and no go. The randomness makes me think there might be a corrupt file somewhere? Prefs have been trashed many a time…
