  • Borders appearing while using Mercalli v2 Stabilisation plugin in Vegas Pro 11

    HI,

I need to stabilise some pretty shaky 4:3 aspect footage that also pans and zooms. I tried stabilising this footage with the Mercalli v2 plugin using the following settings:

    Universal Camera
Pan Shot Smoothing – set to 40%
Avoid Border – set to 30%
Rolling Shutter compensation – set to 50%
Zoom Compensation – set to 20%
Horizontal Tilt compensation – set at 50%
Keep Camera Dynamic – has been checked
Border Handling – Best Border selected

After completing the analysis and render, I notice that the black borders to the left and right of the screen are ‘bouncing’ in and out of the screen. What causes this, and is there a way I can fix this?

    Thankyou for your help.

It’s caused by the footage possibly being too shaky. Try adjusting the Avoid Borders setting to be more steady. You can also adjust the Zoom Compensation to zoom in more and avoid the borders.
