You obviously have not worked with video patch bays, or the back of a video switcher, or router.
ADC, Trompeter, and others make this tool. It is available from most video supply houses, like
    Markertek and Pacific Radio.

Oh you’re so right. I try to spend as little time as possible behind the machines.

I remember a Bob Zelin who did the Convergence installation–years ago–at the Video Department of the Port Authority in NY (World Trade Center). I was free lancing as an editor then. I now produce and direct (in San Francisco) so I’m much less adept at tech stuff.

Thanks for your tip. It will save my fingers.

Hey Paul – it’s me ! I related a story about Port Authority and it’s bureaucracy recently – when you needed a floppy disk for an EDL, and no one could authorize the purchase for a lousy floppy disk. I remember Al Belva – I hope all those guys are all right from you know what at WTC.

I’ve had the same thought, Bob. They were all counting the years till retirement so I believe Belva and Rossamundo(?), Livingston Johns, were probably out of there. I did check the New York Times WTC list and didn’t find their names. The bureaucracy was pretty funny. Like moving a mountain to get anything done. As freelancers we were always thinking of ways to circumvent it but that kind of thinking was frowned upon by Belva and da boys.

Nice to know you’re still raising hell.

Now I’ve got one more tech question. I’ve got a little metal BB generator made by Burst with only a single output. If I want to run reference to both AJA and the deck will a splitter connector work for me? Or is the black burst sync signal cut in half. In which case I’d need to spring for a Horita with multiple outputs.

Although it would be nice to have the Horita BSG-50, you can send black from the Burst BB unit into the AJA I/O Reference In, and use the looping jack (right on the bottom) to feed the Beta VTR Ref Video In. Make sure that you throw the 75 ohm term switch on the VTR to ON, so you will be properly terminated. You will be fine.

    Good hearing from you.
