    Hi,

I’m an editor new in the vast world of HD since I’ve primarily been working in SD before. I’m currently working in a station with a Blackmagicdesign Decklink HD Extreme Card, since the company is now switching from SD to HD production.

We don’t have a tape deck so we capture through a camera and right now the projects I’m editing are in HDV format being exported in to Apple ProRes 422 codec.

I don’t seem to be using any of the Blackmagic codecs or settings in the capture screen in FinalCut, and thus I’m pretty sure I’m not maximizing the capacity of the card. What are the advantages I’m getting from the Blackmagic HD card and how can I use them?

I know this may be an embarassing newbie question but I’ll ask anyway since we all gotta start somewhere, hehe. Thanks for any help/thoughts you can give.

    Dennis
