I’m make a short trailer type video in Sony Vegas 7.

I made a graphic in photoshop (the BUZZ TV) and save it as a .png file with a tranparent background. I just used the Pan/crop toll in Vegas to get it to move across the screen. When I render this the movement is blurred. I’ve done similar techniques but never noticed it that bad..

I ticked the ‘Reduce interlace flicker’ box in the Image properties but it didn’t seem to make much difference.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
Here’s a screen grab of the problem:

Those are interlacing artifacts and (most likely) won’t show up on your TV.

    Unfortunally it does.

Is there any settings I should be using on my project to prevent this.

Since it’s impossible to see what the BUZZ TV logo originally looked like, can you post a full-sized still of the logo all by itself?
It could be that it’s just too detailed and you may need to crank it down a bit.
Another thing you can try is to apply a very light Gaussian blur (vertical only – set to 0.001) to the logo.

Is there any general rules for the use of .pngs/.jpgs as graphics in my project that i should be oserving.

Again I appreciate all the help that this forum provides.

Ronan, try rendering it out in progressive instead of interlaced.
As far as rules, take a look at the Great Titles with the DV Codec tutorial.
Even though it’s for titles, a lot of the rules (especially about legal colours) still apply.
