How can I create a solid or a shape to have the appearance of glass. Basically I have a video of a person who walks behind several columns of Glass and the subject stands behind one glass as it gets shot and breaks. Now I couldnt afford to go out and buy some glass and run the risk of the shot not working out that and slicing up my actor. SO I thought I would make a glass pane in After effects that would have all of the attributes of real glass. Blur and density then I could use the shatter plugin to destroy it. Any suggestions?

I usually make a solid, add a dark blue/white ramp effect, and lower the opacity. Then I use a video layer or picture as reflection. Simple, but you can pass it off as glass. Match the ramp to fit your scene lighting. Get creative if you need more realism. Precompose this and bring it in to your main comp to shatter it.

Ok dont bother I figured it out. I used an adjustment layer with a bulge effect on it. I also created a colored solid to give the color of the glass. I had to mask around the adjustment layer because the bulge comes as a circle. Anyway I figured it out.
