It’s not all that stable on a Mac right now. We create VERY simple DVD’s and have had multiple instances where a project simply will not open up after it has been closed. So we have to create a new project.
Just so you know. We’re using it because it’s the only option right now to author a Blu-ray disc on the Mac. We use DVDSP for everything else.

December 11, 2007 at 4:14 pmOh, OK. I’ve always wanted to stay as Apple app-centric as possible, but I’d love to move on to blu-ray (especially for archiving). Maybe DVDSP 5 (whenever that comes out) will have Blu-Ray support?

Who knows. The silly thing is Compressor supports Blu-ray, but not DVDSP.

December 11, 2007 at 8:45 pmSilly in deed! Tt seems like from what I’ve read here, that most of Final Cut Studio’s team was too busy with Color and revamping the other apps to bother with DVDSP. Maybe at the Expo they’ll have a new update for DVDSP.

What settings are you using in Compressor when you are encoding your footage to go to Encore? Are you taking that compressed file straight to Encore then building – then burning in Toast?

We created our own custom preset using the Blu-Ray setting in Compressor. We take those files to Encore to author the project and then burn in Toast.

January 7, 2008 at 9:18 pmThanks.
May I go so far as to ask which Compressor Pre-Set you are using? I have a thirty second piece that requires I go to Blu Ray and I was hoping to get it all in on the 19Mbps setting. Can I also go so far as to ask what additional tweaks you are using on top of that custom preset?
We shot and edited our entire program ( A thirty minute doc) in 720P 24P – and we are looking to get the cleanest output possible.

I’ve given you all the basic information to get the job done. Actual presets and tweaks that we use to get the final image quality are something our clients pay us for.
It’s all pretty much self explanatory if you look at the Compressor presets. That was our starting point. Then we spent three days testing, burning and re-testing the presets until we came up with three different main presets we use for our Blu-Ray discs. From there we still tweak each individual project.
Nothing beats testing on your own system.
