Blur only blacks take 2
No answer to my earlier post. I’ll try again. Is there a way in Vegas 5 to blur only the blacks? I’m driven to this idea by a post on CML about getting “velvity” blacks by blurring only the blacks.
I tried copying a sample clip and pasting above. Then turning the copy to B&W, blurring, and increasing transparency. Of course, this method blurs BOTH blacks and white. It’s a look, but not what I’m trying to do.

I haven’t read up about this Rick, but maybe some sort of luminance masking would help isolate the darkest parts of the picture.
One other idea – chroma key out the black and have an identical event below, to which blur is applied.
