When I open one project I see a horizontal blue line between the L&R stereo tracks …

    # What is this ? what does it do?
    # Have I turned something on by accident
    # How do I (& should I ) remove it.

    Just not seen it before.

    It’s an Audio Envelope.

You must have hit Shift V to insert it.
YOu can double click it to add points to the line and then grab the point and raise or lower the volume. Or grab the blue line between two points to raise or lower an area. There are many variations to that.
Shift P will add a red line which is used the same way but for panning audio.
