I’m trying to import from a Blu-Ray player (Phillips BDP 7200) via component out to a firewire converter (ProMax DA-MAX+)
I’m using FCP HD 4.5 on a Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4 (mirror door) running Mac OSX 10.4.11.

I’ve set the sequence to DVCPRO HD 720p60 (16:9).
The capture preset to DVCPRO HD – 720p60 (16:9) with the digitizer set to DV.
The Device control preset to a copy of Non-Contollable Device using Apple Firewire protocol and DV Time as the time source.

When I try to import using Capture Now I get an error message stating – “Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a device in your capture presets and try again.”
    What am I missing?

    Thanks

I’m assuming the DA-Max is not capable of converting your signal to DVCPro HD. It has to be converted BEFORE it gets to FCP, like what the AJA Kona boards do.

That makes sense, but why do I see the footage in my capture window? The only problem seem to be device control, but since I’m using non-controllable I don’t understand the error.

    Hi Agnes,
Walter is right and what you are getting in your capture video is DV.
    This is what I understand from this page (quite old, 2.002) of AJA;

Try a DV preset and keep “Non controllable device”.

So if I make a generic preset using DV will that work? I’m not so worried about maintaining the original quality throughout, I’m more looking to be able to capture these clips directly without dumping them to DVD or Betacam sp

If that even works. The BluRay player is sending out an HD signal via Component…not sure if that box can take that HD signal and convert it to DV. Hope it does.

That lets me import but it’s squeezed. I guess I’m dreaming with this.

If this will even work. The BluRay player is sending out an HD signal down that Component cable. Not sure if your DV converter can read that signal and convert it.

That’s the problem I guess. Even though it will pass through the HD signal I can’t get it into FCP that way. I guess I’ll just dump it to DV and import it through my Pioneer PRV-LV1

    Thanks all

Both of my BluRay players have a regular Video output. Use that as that signal will be downconverted already.
