  • Blu Ray on MacBook Pro’s ?

    Greetings Mac Guru’s ,
Do any of you have an educated guess on when we’ll see Blu-ray burner/players on MacBook Pro Laptops ? I’m assuming they will put them in QuadCore’s first.Holding out for Blu-ray till the bitter end…… I know we can set up external Blu-Rays using Adobe software …. but to me this flys in the face of the Apple elegant software interaction mantra.

    You mean like this one?

They have a slot load model that goes inside your MacBook Pro. It’s been available for about 4 or 6 months now.

Hi Walter … thanks for the quick response 🙂 I hope your enjoying a balmy Altlanta climate while its still cold and snowy here in Colorado. Cool , I didn’t know those slot loading BluRay drives were out there. For me two issues with what I see .. cost … a one thousand dollar peripheral , and secondly only available on 17″ MacBooks … I’m a 15″ guy from way back. Don’t let this cast any dispersions on my man hood.

Don’t expect internal slot load units to get cheaper anytime soon. New technology always costs extra, just look at the MacBook Air.

We put the Internal unit in our Mac Pro for just $550. First job more than paid for that unit, the software and the replicator.

Yeah I agree $500-$600 price is totally acceptable … the website says $1,000 , but I guess they are less in the real world. So your unit works just fine ?

[Bill Willins] “the website says $1,000 ,”

For the Macbook Pro Internal, yes that’s correct. I own the internal for the Mac Pro. That’s much cheaper.

[Bill Willins] “So your unit works just fine ?”

    Yes.

    Hi Walter,

Which software did you use to create your DVD since DVDSP is not blue-ray compatible.
I heard that Adobe Encore do the job.

Yes, that’s what we use. I’ve actually posted about this quite a bit on here. In fact just a little while ago in the other thread about Blu Ray today.
