  • Blu Ray DVD menu title safe..???

I’m making a Blu Ray DVD menu and I’m wondering if I need to follow the title safe guides in Encore. My assumption would be that anyone watching Blu Ray would be doing so on an LCD or Plasma screen which would be 16×9 and not cut off any of the image the way tube TVs do. It seems as though all the area for the most part would be safe… is this wrong? Does cropping occur???

    [Bill Whirity] “Does cropping occur?”

Not on my Sony Bravia (at least not that I can see). I have heard that this may not be universally true for HD monitors, so if you want to be absolutely sure, you’ll continue to use the safe area for menus, especially title safe for buttons.

Blu-ray players connect to tv’s through digital connections (such as HDMI), so there is no overscan. You don’t really have to worry about title safe areas, however, you shouldn’t place text that close to the edge anyways. If you’ve ever taken an art class that covers composition and layout, you would know thats a design no-no (looks bad).
