Blu Ray burner…
all of a sudden it begins: clients want blu ray. Looking at prices to have someone else make them, I think it’d be cheaper to buy our own burner and spend a day learning Encore.
Any good suggestions on a burner? Maybe an internal for my MacPro?

Do a search on this forum, this has been discussed quite a bit and I also have some info on my Blog. We run the FastMac internal burner and a Panasonic Dual BluRay duplicator.

We need to make 10 copies of a feature film on HD-SR, and 10 copies of it’s trailer, on BD-R. These will be screeners so ultra basic menus and basic compression.
Idea of what kind of prices people are charging?

I usually go to Newegg.com for bare computer parts. The cheapest one they have is a Lite-On 2x burner for $370. 4x Pioneer for $430.
The only dual-layer burner is the Sony that Walter mentioned. It’s $600.
If you have a PPC G5 you’ll need a SATA to IDE adapter as well.

Not ture. I just bought the Panasonic SW-5583 Dual layer 4x blu-Ray drive for $495.00 It arrives tomorrow. The lite-on, Sony and FastMac are all this drive repackaged.

Just burned a BD-RE. Painless. Hooked it to the SATA cable I ran from the two ports behind the fan.

Does anyone know if a bare Blu-ray SATA drive will work without specific Mac drivers? I’m wondering about the new LG GGW-H20L drive, $259 at NewEgg. Would if be recognised?
