    Hello.

Do somebody know if it is possible to mix SD (m2v files) and HD (Mpeg or h264) on a blu-ray in Encore?
I have not worked in Encore before but what I wanna do is this.
I wanna use my menus and intros that not exist in a HD format from a DVD made in Scenarist and mix this clips with the main film that exist in 1080P, Into a new blu-ray project in Encore
    Possible?
    🙂 Pelle

Yes, it is possible as Blu-ray supports SD resolutions and frame rates (except 24p SD).

Thanks alot for answer but I still not sure I got the answer to my question.
I know that the blu-ray spec. allows mixing between SD and HD, but do Encore? Cause when I mix SD and HD materials in Encore it seems like Encore re-encode my m2v files in a new higher bitrate. I need to play around a little more with Encore to find out how the program is function. Any tips around this? 🙂 Pelle

    Yes, Encore CS3 supports this.

If Encore is re-encoding your SD video, then it is not Blu-ray legal.

You’re not mixing SD and HD in the same timeline, are you?

That was my thought as well, Joe. But then I questioned whether Encore would even allow that, and I don’t have any HD material to test with.

Will Encore permit SD and HD in the same timeline? I didn’t find any restrictions listed in Help.

Encore will allow that, but will transcode both clips to the project setting default.

All my SD clips are 16:9 pal 25 progressive…

That’s the problem, right there. Blu-ray does not support progressive frame rates in SD resolutions. Please refer to this white paper, on page 17:

You can try re-transcoding them to 50i, either outside of Encore, or let Encore do it.

    aaahh.
OK. Then I will re-capture the uncompresed SD clip and drop them into encore instead. Thanks a lot.
