Blocky end result?
Hello all!
Shot on DV100, all footage is fine except close up of a face, its a little blocky (looks like big pixels). It has 2 Luca plugin filters, and a color corrector, and a broadcast safe on it, BUT so does all the other footage, so I dont see how it could be that. Its sequence is in the HDV preset, but I have tried Apple prores 422, 422HQ AND 4444 and none make a difference. The canvas size makes no difference either. Even after exporting as and (uncompressed) quicktime movie (cmd+e) it doesnt make much difference. What could it be?

Hi Thomas,
There are two solutions for the DV blockiness,
One is to capture with an AJA or so; when the 411/420 footage is upgraded to 422, the card perform some Chroma filtering.
There is also a software solution that works very well: the Nattress Chroma Smooth/Sharpen filter.
To see the results you must apply it to the DV footage is a 422 codec sequence.
With Prores and “High Precision Rendering”, is magic.

Hmm are you talking about ‘G Chroma Sharpen (Interlaced/ Progressive)’? Because that doesnt seem to do the trick, no matter how I do it…. Also how do you make sure ‘high precision rendering’ is on?
An example of what it looks like is here:
(Ignore the fact it’s overexposed its meant to look/ be coloured like that) but the blocks on her forehead should NOT be there!
The AJA option isnt working either, although software options would be preferable at this point to save time 🙂

The filter I say is Smooth?Sharpen.
Anyway these doesn’t look to me as the typical DV blocks.
They have a 4 pixels pattern.
This look more like small drop-outs or same kind of lost of signal.
