Blending Modes and Fades
Hi All
Heres a question that I feel like there must be an answer to, and am just dying to solve this problem.
Here’s a situation I run into regularly. I want to fade between two shots. However, I may want to emphasize certain regions and colors in each shot, and so would like to not use the “Normal” blending mode, but would prefer to use something like “multiply” or “overlay” . However, at the points where the shots are not overlapping, I want them to look normal. If I say try to use “multiply” once the first clip goes out, the second clip becomes black. I’ve tried putting a white matte underneath it, but there is no smooth way of working that.
Any one have any good techniques for using certain blending modes in a dissolve, and coming out of the dissolve with the second clip looking completely normal?
A simpler way of putting the problem: I’d like to be able to dissolve from a “normal” looking clip into another “normal” looking clip; but have the freedom to play with how the two clips composite over each other during the dissolve.
A simpler way of putting the question: Are there any ways to dissolve between two shots, and have some control over how they composite when they are both onscreen?
Thank you all for any help you might offer,
John
