  • Blend modes within overlaying objects for holograms (not fresnel)

Is it possible somehow to blend objects where they are overlaying like in Photoshop? I made some comparison with Element 3D from After Effects for better explaining.

This is the scene I made in C4D. In Element 3D the same.

Element 3D has blend modes and this is the result.

Add Blend Mode in Element 3D is changing hue of color only, but just overlaying in Cinema 4D is changing saturation and brightness without touching any hue.
Cinema 4D has blend modes in Sketch and Toon but it allows you to create lines only, which is limited and frustrating.

I make holograms and I am very sad that I didn’t find yet how to make it in c4d. Maybe there is some plugin or something else. Is it possible to make in Cinema 4D?

maybe something I don’t know but not directly, I think. Since Element 3D is a 3D plugin in a 2D compositing program that’s likely what makes it possible. However, it might be possible if you use Object Buffers and Multipass rendering to take your objects into AE and do blending in the rendered layers there.

Interesting. I suppose it gives blending of layers only but not blending itself. Well, most efficient way to render hologram is Element 3D as I understand.
By the way about Multipass. I didn’t work with it before so I have some problem. Do you mean that I need to
    1. check Multi-Pass and add Object Buffer
    2. add Composing tag on both cubes and then check Enable Buffer in Object Buffer menu?
I think I’m doing something wrong)

hmmm I wasn’t thinking, your objects are right in front of each other so the Object Buffer thing won’t work because the first object occludes the others buffers
(yes you have it basically right but you an add multiple object buffer layers in the multipass, one for each buffer)

So sorry, I can’t think of a good solution other than rendering the objects separately
