Blend modes when using “glow” effect
I’m working on a sci-fi which has glowing billboards. I love the glow effect, my problem is that the “glow” also puts a dark halo around black pixels, even when I set the “glow operation” to Add–I have tried every blend mode for the glow operation. below are my results.
Right now I’ve just duplicated the layer and set the top layer to Add, which produces a decent result, but I’d like to have more control.
Any advice or glowing billboard advice in general?WITHOUT glow:

You’d have more control if you could duplicate the layer where you want to add glow (it should be masked – so that may be a problem). Add the glow effect and set the layer itself to add, black won’t go through.
On your case, the threshold value should tell the effect which brightness value to glow, increasing it may solve the dark halos.

assuming the black framed elements are keyed, you could also try adding cc composite after the glow effect and set ‘composite original’ to ‘stencil alpha’ (essentially re-compositing the original alpha channel after the low effect)
