April 7, 2007 at 1:08 pmHi
Steve Mullen has written about this camera:
“In the second part of this camcorder preview, coming in two weeks, I will discuss some of the editing issues associated with the JVC HD Everio…”
but I can’t find if its been published yet.

April 7, 2007 at 1:59 pmI will try and do that today – I would think one would nee the Quicktime Component installer from JVC too, which I’ll try and post…

April 7, 2007 at 2:03 pmSorry – I’m getting confused with all the variants out there. My rudimentary understanding was that the MPEG2 format employed by JVC (1920×1080) was different than the HDV standard at 1440, and that’s why they supplied a special codec.
Still, none of the HDV settings work…
I’ll be posting a small clip and the codec soon, and let everyone know where to download…

April 7, 2007 at 2:31 pm[thrangster] “Further, what’s odd is under a clips Item Properties in FCP, the CODEC entry is blank – FCP is not interpreting what it is….”
Why is that odd??? – this is a consumer camera, it is not uncommon for consumer products to not be usable with pro apps.
I would have started the what is wrong with.
< I>you bought it at best buy, what makes you think it will work

First off there is no consumer grade camera that shoots with a full raster 1080 imager. there is not even a prosumer camera that shoots with a full raster imager.
m2t is HDV transport stream.
All HD content is compressed when recorded to tape in-camera — there is no exceptions to this rule.
Even Sony’s HDCAM format is 1440 on tape. (SR is different)It often takes months to have a new protocol in any application and certainly will not be supported if there has not been an software patch since the hardware released.

Nope, it’s still anamorphic. Even HDCAM cameras shoot anamorphic and it’s brought out to full raster 1920 in post. No consumer grade camera will shoot the full frame. If you’re planning to shoot professionally, Circuit City is not the place to buy a camera.

April 7, 2007 at 5:11 pmWell, I have had other prosumer cameras, such as the TVR-900 and FX-1, and you would see which codec was associated with the clip.
The camera is certainly a prosumer camera, based on specs – I’m fully willing to acknolwedge that there may be incompatibilities, and if so, I’ll return it
I’m not a pro, but a long time enthusiast.
