i recently converted video from a VOB format to AVI. the video plays great and imports without a problem into Sony Vegas 9b. the problem i am having is that when i play from the timeline, the preview box is a blank screen. i have audio however. another strange this is that if i open the video in the trimmer it previews from there with sound and video. i am rather new to this software so please forgive me if i overlooked something minor. thank you.

What codec did you use to make the AVI? Try using DV or HuffYUV or Logarith, or any other codec that edits easily in Vegas.

i used the xvid codec to make my avi. i actually think that it is working fine now. i closed out vegas and came back to try again and it worked fine. dont know what it was all about but it seems ok now.

I believe that if you have he trimmer preview window enabled that the time line preview window is disabled. Don’t know why.

that definitely could have been it. i’ll play around with it to see exactly how that works. thanks!

That’s your problem. Vegas doesn’t support Xvid or Divx. Don’t use them.

No it’s not. You will have problems rendering. As I said, Vegas doesn’t support Xvid or Divx. Stop using it and you’ll be fine. Continue with your project as is and your next post will be, “My video won’t render”. Trust me on this one.

Ok, so question. I ripped a couple vids off of Youtube and when i go to render them in Vegas, parts of them will render as a plain black screen. If this is a codec problem, how do I make it with a different codec? when I rip them, i convert them to .avi’s with a conversion program…

    any help would be appreciated.

    > when I rip them, i convert them to .avi’s with a conversion program…

What is important is the codec that is used. What codec does your conversion program use? Like I said in the previous post, if it’s DivX or XVid you will have problems. If the conversion program allows a choice of codecs stay away from these.
