  • blank preview in Sony Vegas 12 Pro when using GPU acceleration

Posted by Brian Jones on May 15, 2013 at 2:45 am

Just a question or concern. Here are my specs:

    Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
    RAM 8gb
    Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
    Nvidia GeForce GT 630 4Gb
    DirectX11.0
    PhysX 9.12
    All Drivers updated

When I use Sony Vegas 12 Pro, and add a video to the timeline, the video shows up along with audio as normal. But when I click on the video or play it in the timeline it will Not show in the preview window.
Now, if I go in to “Options” then “Preferences” and on the video tab, I have to change the “GPU Acceleration of Video Processing” to OFF. then the video will show in the preview window.

Is this a Glitch or a Video Card Driver problem or something else?
    Please help Thanks

[Brian Jones] “Is this a Glitch or a Video Card Driver problem or something else?”

Most likely a video card driver problem. The 600 series of NVIDIA cards have been having all sorts of problems with Vegas Pro 12.0. I would keep GPU acceleration off until Sony gets it all sorted out.

Either that or there is now a ‘stealth’ or ‘black ops’ editing mode in Vegas.

    🙂

    * grin *

But seriously Brian, the GPU acceleration feature in Vegas has been problematic in SVP11 and SVP12, to the point it is sometimes best left switched off, although most users have been reporting problems rendering, not previewing.

Make sure you report it to Sony

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

the 630 is a very weird card, a modified Kepler GPU aggressively crippled to be placed in the low-budget market segment, its architecture isn’t suited for computing/CUDA, just gaming in medium-low settings environments, what I find annoying is that they are putting 4 GB of VRAM in this board just to make it attractive to casuals, we do know the 630 GPU runs out of rendering power well before it hits more than 1.5 VRAM usage so the extra VRAM is pretty much useless, the most Vegas-friendly Kepler card out there besides the latest Quadros (of course) is the 660 Ti 3 GB, 3-way 192 bit bus working at full speed with 3×1 GB GDDR5 RAM modules and same drivers optimizations as those of the 670s and 680s, the rest of the 6XX cards use different, less-mature, more gaming-oriented drivers.
