I’m hoping this is another case of me hitting something I shouldn’t have on the SVP 10 Interface. When I pull video clips into the timeline it creates an audio and video track, but the audio track is empty (just a white fill). However, I do have audio on the track – it’s just not showing. These are MTS files from a Canon XA10 camera.

Any idea as to why this is happening?

    Thanks in advance.

[Marlen Mathers] “I do have audio on the track – it’s just not showing. “

It could be that the audio is so low that the waveform is not showing. I would right-click the audio event and select Switches > Normalize. This should make the waveform louder and make it show (if it’s there).

Thanks John. I tried that with no success. I should mention that my volume meters are peaking properly. I’m using the “Default” Window Layout and the volume bars on the right are hitting the “3DB”…

One other thing I should mention. I’m using the Canon XA10 to record my videos. This camera is new to me. I’m using the two XLR inputs on the camera to record audio. Each mic is on it’s own track. When I bring the clip into SVP 10, I’m duplicating the audio track, and “swapping” channels to get both tracks to come thru the left and right speakers. (I probably could just use the “downmix” option for this as well)

So, I don’t know if the way I am capturing the audio is the source of my issue, or if I’m doing something wrong in Vegas. The good news is that the audio is there and the gain is correct.

Hmmm… that’s odd. So the audio is there you just can’t see the peaks. Try View | Rebuild Audio Peaks (Shift+F5) to see if they will come back.

John – that didn’t do it either. Any other possibilities?

John – I did figure it out and it was very similar to what you suggested.
The “View – Audio Event Waveform” menu or (CTRL-+Shift+W)did the trick.

I dumped a 3hour mp3 into the track and then (CTRL-+Shift+W) and it took a few seconds while it was “Rebuilding Audio Peaks” – and then the waveform appeared. Success!
