When i use the blade cut (B) shortcut to cut in between clips it always misses the exact location. It automatic finds the location before but in the last year it doesn’t find it. You now have to zoom into the clip to get it at the right location and it still sometimes misses it. This is referring to cutting a date and timeline above the clip. We always have 100’s of clips to do this and it is very time consuming. Anyone know how to correct this? Expert help please.

From the image, it looks to me like you’re trying to cut at a sub frame level and fcpx is snapping to the nearest frame, which it has always done. Only audio can be cut sub-frame.

    Hi Jeff

No I’m trying to cut the date and time frame to match the timeline scene when it changes time. Before Using the blade tool it stopped where the break is automatically and precise where the break is. It no longer does that i wish i could figure it out.

    Turn on snapping.

The ‘n’ key toggles this function.

One of the first things I did was change the “B” shortcut key to “Blade” instead of “Blade Tool”. That way it instantly cuts the clip where the pointer is. I find it unnecessary to have a “Blade Tool” as I’m typically only blading one thing at a time. And it’s easier to get exact.

Something I really miss from the FCP7 days was, when you used the blade button, if you had multiple layers or tracks of video on the timeline, you could just tap that button repeatedly and each press would slice the next layer down at the same exact spot. I found that super-handy but in FCPX, if it’s there I haven’t found it yet.

[Mark Suszko] “if it’s there I haven’t found it yet.”

⌘B for the active clip, B for ALL clips.
