    Hi,

Going a little nuts here. Working with the Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro card, Final Cut Pro and After effects. I have only had this system for a month. I previously was using the Media 100.

We can not figure out the right work path to export cut clips from Final Cut, import them into After Effects for masks and what not, render the clip with the effect and them bring it back into Final Cut. We are working footage that was recorded on DVCPRO50 24p with a 2:3 pulldown to 30P. The footage was then dubbed to Digibeta. We digitzed the Digibeta footage into the system through SDI using the Blackmagic 10 bit NTSC option.

    Problem One-

We are taking the digitized clips and bringing them into After Effects raw and finding the cut points there. Would love to just export the clip from Final Cut or export a timeline, but when we do the quicktime conversion, the clip is compressed even though we have chosen Blackmagic 10 bit and uncompressed from the menu.

    Problem Two-

When we render the effected clip in After Effects, again we are chosing the Blackmagic 10 Bit NTSC option, uncompressed, best setting and lower field first dominance. When we bring the new effected clip back into Final Cut the compression looks good, but the interlacing is maddening. We have tried all sorts of ways to render in after effects and can not figure out how to solve this problem. It is a flickering nightmare.

    Problem Three-

Is there a way to bring in After Effects renders without having to render them again on the Final Cut Pro timeline when we are using the Blackmagic Card 10 bit for render?

    Thanks so much!

    Make your edits
Select a range in your sequence by hitting “I” for your in point and “O” for your out.
File>export with “current settings” and “make self contained” UNchecked

Use the Easy setups. It sounds like your settings don’t match.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the blackmagic easy setups use the *Apple* UC 10 bit codec. you will need to duplicate that capture preset, change the codec to blackmagic, and then make a new easy setup with your new capture preset.

If your FCP timeline settings match your AE render settings there should be no reason to rerender in FCP.

    There’s two solutions:

You can rerender your clips in AE using your current setups, remebering to change the codec from bm 10 bit to Apple uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 or
you can try and switch your timeline codec to BM 10 bit so it’ll “match” your AE renders. Hit command 0 in FCP and switch the codec in the quicktime video options.

Exporting is just like Peter says. Make sure the Self contained box is empty. This option is just like doing a reference movie out of Media100. As a former (and sometimes current) M100 editor, I feel your frustration. Once you figure it out and get the setup workflow down, FCPs interface will set you free from Media100 timeline constraints.

    Happy editing.

Another greaty thing is Automatic Duck AE Pro Import. It imports you FCP timeline into an AE Comp with much of the motion/fx translated

Also, with your interlacing issue, you need to got to the “Interpret Footage-Main” dialogue and set the clip to LFF, and remove pulldown, if necessary. Select the clip in the project window, right-click, Interpret Footage->Main. In this dialogue, you can also set your pixel aspect ratio if you are working with anamorphic. You can also Copy/Paste footage interpretations in the same pulldown menu.

Finally, render in Apple Lossless 10-bit 4:2:2 LFF
