Blackmagic SDI to Analog Mini-Convertor Quck Question
Hi All. We are due to receive a B/M SDI to Analog Mini-Convertor to receive a SDI signal over our Fiber Network. We are running at Knox Routing Switcher into a TelVue B3400 Broadcast Server. We noticed that the audio out of the B/M box is 1/4″ for audio. Our Knox is looking for RCA l/r for input. Is it going to be sufficient enough to just utilize a 1/4″ to RCA adapter for audio output into the Knox, or is there something special we need to ensure proper audio for the box’s output? Hopefully this is a dumb question, but we figured we’d check anyway. Thanks!

all you need is the 1/4″ TRS to RCA male phone plug cable(s)
I am guessing that the output of the 1/4″ TRS from the Blackmagic will be a +4dBu signal, and that the
Knox (which is old – correct?) – may expect to see a -10dBu analog audio signal – which means that you may get analog audio distortion. Companies like Markertek sell balanced to unbalanced converters which will attenuate the audio level for you. Be aware that most of these converters are XLR to RCA, so if you come out of the Blackmagic mini converter, you will need to go 1/4″ to XLR first, and then go RCA-RCA.
Of course, that is IF you get audio distortion when you plug into your Knox router with RCA inputs.Bob Zelin
