  • Blackmagic – problem when FCP playhead stops

    Hello,

My setup is Apple dual G5 + Blacmagic Decklink HD Pro 4:4:4 + JVC CRT monitor. I am currently monitoring SD video through the component outputs of the Decklink card into the JVC component inputs. (I am monitoring audio through the HDLink connected in turn to the studio monitors – lots of pops and clicks but that’s not the issue now…)

It used to work fine until 2 days ago, when suddenly something went a bit wrong. Every time the playhead stops in the timeline, the video dissapears for one fraction of a second and then re-appears but this time much brighter. When I resume playing, same thing, video disappears then resumes playing with normal levels.

I do not have this problem in the viewer, it stops and resumes playing perfectly, and the video doesn’t change.

Again, it just started doing this 2 days ago, I haven’t changed anything as far as my system goes and I wasn’t able to track down the problem.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

PS Same thing when I reconfigure everything to PAL and work in a PAL project – viewer behaves ok, but in timeline the same problem, when I stop, the video turns brighter while paused (though without disappearing for a fraction of a second as it happens in NTSC). As I resume, it goes back to normal.

    UPDATE

With 720p DVCPRO HD the reverse happens! When I stop the footage, while paused, it gets darker! When I resume, it gets back to normal! I have no idea why… But it’s just the opposite to what happens with SD when I pause it, and look at the CRT monitor.

PS I am downconverting HD to SD through the Blackmagic Preferences.

Try turning off overlays in the view menu.
