    Hi

I’m looking for a card to output from Premiere Pro/After Effects/Encore to an external monitor. I only need S-Video and composite outputs.

Should I go for something like the Canopus ADVC-110 or one of the Blackmagic Decklink range? I’m a bit confused by their website and not sure which one I should be looking at.

I would like the card to be as responsive as possible – is there any lag when using either of these products?

    Thanks

    Andrew

I have no experience with the Black Magic board…

The Canopus boxes, however, I use all the time. There really isn’y any “lag” per se that I’ve noticed. There will probably be a slight sync difference between the computer and the monitor so you may want to tap audio from the box as well if that’s important.

For AE use…it’s of course not realtime anyway…but my two ADVC 100s have served well in this capacity…and they can be used with a laptop.

A Blackmagic board would give you an uncompressed output. Something highly recommended for any broadcast work you might do. The Canopus on the other hand will be compressed to DV. They’re awesome convertors that will be constantly useful, but your output quality would be better on the Blackmagic boards.
