  • Blackmagic HD Pro (DualLink) setup and workflow problems

    Currently, I have a Black Magic HD Pro (DualLink), HDLink, OS 10.4.5, FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.0.4 and we are having some major setup problems.

    We when first got the system and hooked everything up, it worked perfectly. However, we recently reconfigured our setup, and in an attempt to clean up extra cables, etc. went about hooking everything up again…this time more efficiently.

    Well, now nothing seems to work correctly. We are working with 23.98fps, 1080i, Uncompressed 10-bit footage and we like to be able to monitor it with our Apple 23″ monitor thru the HDLink and simultaneously view a down converted PAL signal on our SD monitor. This setup should be straightforward, but nothing seems to send a signal to the HDLink and monitor. Nothing shows up [black, no signal I presume] on the 23″ and only static and snow of the PAL monitor. By setting the output to Blackmagic PAL we can get a signal to the PAL monitor but only still frames. During playback, the frame does not refresh on the PAL monitor….and still nothing on the HD side.

    If anyone has had similar problems or knows something obvious [or not so obvious] that I’m completely overlooking, please let me know. It’s so frustrating to have a nice system and then not be able to use it properly.

    Thanks.

    of course you ckecked the following?:

    – audio video settings -> playback output set to 1080
    – in finder-systemprefs-blackmagic->realtime downconversion

    Well, just to follow up, here’s what happened. It turns out that when the system was moved to it’s current location, the power supply for the HDLink was mixed up with a different, more powerful one that fit. Basically, the HDLink was fried, thus producing no picture. Blackmagic has since replaced the unit and everything is back to normal.
