BlackMagic DecklinkSP and BetaCamSP UVW1200 RS Connect issues
Posted by Dragos on April 14, 2005 at 3:58 amCan anyone tell me the best adapter to get to make my Black Magic DeckLinkSP card connect with my BetaSP UVW 1200? The DeckLink Card comes with a male 9 pin connecter (RS232)and the beta deck has a female adapter on the back that looks like a RS422. If anyone has had similar configuration issues and can provide some feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

The 9pin from the Decklink IS an RS-422 connector. According to the specs I just read on a website, you have RS-232 on your UVW-1200. Look at http://www.markertek.com or call ProMax about getting an adapter to go from the Decklink to the deck. http://www.promax.com.

April 14, 2005 at 12:54 pmWe use a UVW1200 deck with Decklink Extreme Card on our G5.
Instead of using a RS422 to RS- 232 adapter (which never worked) we did what others recommended:
1. bought a Keyspan USB TWin Serial Adapter (got ours from Aamazon, about $60) to hook into the G5
2. Bought a serial to RS-232 cable from Digitalpipeline.com, which runs from the Keyspan adapter to the UVW1200 deck. Make sure you get the right cable, it has a round serial connector on one end, and the RS-232 connector on the other. DigitalPipeline support can help on this.
3. Then in FCP set the capture control settings to match. Ours works greatJohn

April 14, 2005 at 3:00 pmThanks for the input. I tried to go to digitalpipeline.com, but it says the site is under construction. Do you have any other way of reaching them? I looked at the Keyspan adapter, but without seeing what the digitalpipeline product looks like, I’m still a little at a loss. I appreciate your help.

April 23, 2005 at 7:01 pmI just received the rs-232 cable and adapter that I ordered. I plugged it into the keyspan USB serial adapter (with the latest drivers loaded) and then plugged that into a Sony Betacam UVW1200 player. I opened up Final Cut Pro and put my capture settings at “BlackMagic NTSC 29.97” and my Capture/Input settings to Blackmagic NTSC – 10 bit. (I ordered the BlackMagic DecklinkSP card for capture.) When I run FInal Cut Pro and try to log and capture it is saying “No video input” and “no communication” After your suggestion I contacted pipeline digital tech support prior to ordering to confirm your information and they agreed, but this setup still isn’t working. Please help me out if you can. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

April 23, 2005 at 7:20 pmOk, I’ve got the video showing up now, there was a problem with my cable connections. However, I still do not have device control, nor do I see an option for rs control in the drop down menu. Can you tell me exactly how you set it up on your configuration? Thanks again.
