blackmagic codec and interlacing
I have beta sp footage which was captured on another machine and they used a black magic codec to capture. I’m using my home computer and don’t have this codec (my video card is the one that came with my G5…it can’t capture analog video). There is a horrible interlacing issue on the computer monitor and when I export and burn a dvd the interlacing issue is worse. Is my problem the fact that it is a codec which is not compatible with my set-up? What can I do to fix this?

Captain,
The Blackmagic codecs are available for free and do not require their hardware cards to work. If I were you I would download them at http://www.decklink.com and insatll them on your MAC and redo the project on a timeline based on the proper BM codec.

Of course there’s an interlacing issue on your computer monitor. It’s a progressive scan monitor and you’re playing interlaced video on it. You have to view interlaced video on an NTSC monitor. Same with the DVD material.

10-4. I am using an NTSC monitor. I was just trying to illustrate that not only does it look strange on my computer monitor, but it looks worse on an NTSC monitor. Sorry for the confusion.

once you download blackmagic and put it into the quicktime/library… is there an easy way to load it into final cut easy setup options- cuz im just not seeing it?
