    hello!

Could anyone shed any light here? Im trying to import an old, huge uncompressed avi file (made on premiere 6 a while ago) into premiere pro or media encoder so i can turn it into an mpeg-2 dvd. ive only managed to do this on after effects.. where if i instruct it to ignore the alpha channel (which apparently is there) it looks fine and ive been able to make an MPEG 2.

However on Media Encoder or premiere pro i just get this big black square blocking most of the shots in the film – though not all. presuming this is something to do with the file having an unspecified alpha channel, how do i get it to ignore and thus eliminate the square a i managed to do in AE.?

this is frustrating because ive read AE doesn’t render out as well as encoder or premiere could and i want the best possible result obviously. The AE mpeg 2 DVD ive manged to make is Ok but not brilliant in the darker areas of the image. and there is a lot of dark areas in my film! Subjects and brighter areas look fine.

my film is only 11 minutes any tips on how to get the best result bitrate wise CBR or VBR… as u can tell im a newbie!

    Many Thanks

    Stu

You can right click on the footage and interpret it, then set it to ignore the Alpha channel.

For 11 minutes, 7.5 CBR is the way to go.

    Hey Vince…

Am I right in thinking that for DVD encodes, CBR maxed is the best option when you have the real estate on the DVD…

when you have to size conscious due to the quantity and length on content… then 2 pass VBR is the best option?
