  • Black Magic Decklink HD and Apple Aperture Issue.

After two days of debugging it looks like the BM HD Link PCI-X card caused issues with some Quartz Extreme and OpenGL rendering core graphics functions, causing the new Apple Aperture on Tiger 10.4.3 (pro photographers app). Apple recommended to remove the card. And as soon as it was gone from the PCI-X slot. Aperture was stable as all can be.

If someone from BM responds I can send the crash log/dump for debugging.

I can back-up the Aperture/Decklink HD issue. We had constant crashing of Aperture on our Dual 2.3 G5 with the BlackMagic Decklink HD card until we removed the Decklink. Aperture is now stable, like it is on our PowerBook (though running Aperture on a PowerBook is not the most ideal situation, FWIW).

    Hi guys,

Does turning off the Video Desktop in Blackmagic DeckLink Preferences help?

    regards

    Hi George,

I’m guessing this is the same OpenGL issue which was introduced with the Mac OS X 10.4.3 update and which now causes Motion 2.0.1 to crash when some effects are used and a DeckLink card and drivers are installed. We have a support note named Motion crashes after Mac OS X 10.4.3 update which describes the problem and the work around, ie disable the DeckLink desktop.

Would you please try this and let us know if it helps? Meanwhile we’ll try to get a copy of Apeture quickly to test this for ourselves. Thanks very much for your report as it would be good to get on top of this quickly.
