Something a little weird has been happening every once in a while on our timeline recently. When working on the timeline some of the footage is black and does’t show up in the canvas, but if I match frame it on the timeline, it shows up in the viewer?? Okay?

No rhyme or reason, it just has random clips doing it… So I first though corrupted sequence, so copied material to new sequence and that wasn’t the case.
It does work though when I shut down fcp and re-open my project..(I don’t want to have to do this)…

So does anybody know the reason why this might happen based on my specs below… And not just a trash prefs response.(thanks for thinking that though). We keep the system up and running as best we can by always checking disks(diskwarrior), clearing unwanted cache.. etc. Thanks to anyone who might have had this happen to them and know the cause of it…

I presume you mean ProRes422. How was this converted – via Log & Transfer or Red Rushes?

yes sorry typo… red rushes.. I have worked on plenty of red features in the past 2 years and this is something new… But this didn’t start happening till recently and isn’t something constant. So after 4 months of editing, it recently started this little quark. It happens maybe once a week, but I would like to figure what might be causing it and diagnose it.

    thanks

If they are the same files, you might try reimporting them. I don’t know what could be causing this. I haven’t had any issues with RED Rushes converted material so far but perhaps you could try the Log & Transfer import option on these shots.

Have you tried asking this on the RED website forums? It might be a known bug.

We just had this happen yesterday to an HD clip with Blackmagic 8-bit codec. Same thing … no rhyme or reason – just showed black on timeline but clip came up fine in viewer. Quit FCP and came back and everything was just fine. First time it’s happened, though.

We’re running OS 10.6.2, 2 x 2.66 dual-core Xeons, 7 GB RAM, Blackmagic Multibridge Pro, FCP 7.0.1, Mostly DVCProHD with some ProRes 422

Yeah, I figured it wasn’t a codec problem(my end being red to Apple Pro Res 422) just random fcp problem. wondering what’s causing it?

    I’m having the same problems.

Imported the proxy file and it turns up black on my timeline and playback … After converting the file with redrushes to pro res the problem is gone. But I have to work on the proxies …

I can not figure out what causes this.

Ran across this answer on another post.

Some how I put my sequence in to wireframe mode, which is all black. Not sure if this was your problem or not but you might want to check next time you see it.
