I have seen a few variations of this problem in this forum but not this scenario, let me explain. I have a project in an event which has a bunch of black clips in the timeline. When I select match-frame there is nothing to match back to as the source clips have been previously deleted from the library and only the timeline sequence remains. My question is, is there a quicker way to get this media reconnected (when relink is selected it has no clips listed as they don’t exist as far as FCPX seems to be concerned) than manually scanning along the timeline and going to search archives for the names of these clips and then copying the clips back into a source folder and re-importing them. Hope that makes sense. It would be great if there was a command like in Avid where one can create new offline ‘master clips’ from an old timeline and relink that way for example. I did try exporting and re-importing an xml hoping that might give me re offline clips at least but it still generated the black clips on the timeline.

Thanks for any help on this.

Just a tip on the XML import. Importing an XML results in hidden browser files so as not to clog up your browser. They’ll appear when you shift+F to match back. However, if you copy that project to another library, then the files will appear in the other project. I think you could then just copy it back again and have all the files. But that just solves your XML issue. Maybe it will help you trouble shoot.

I have had the black clip problem many many times with Worx4 X. If you’re not running it on an original library/project, then results can be iffy and you’ll potentially get the black clips. I’ve found no fix beyond editing the appropriate clip back in over it.
