We have been archiving clips about a project for 5 years and have a huge library that we’d like to print to video. The clips range from about 10 to 20 seconds and are stored in bins. I can drag the contents of each bin down into a timeline and print it, but what I’d like to do is add a second of black between each clip so there is a slight separation between each. It is very time consuimg to touch each one and drag it over on the timeline. I can put about 1000 at once on a timeline and print them out on a three hour tape, but it took me over an hour to select each and drag it (with all the ones beyond it) over to create a one-second gap. I have to make about 10 such tapes. Is there a slick way to space these clips out without having to deal with each one separately?

Use the Insert command to insert a 1 second slug between each clip.

    Susan,

Walter is correct, use the insert edit. This is how I would set it up.
Drag the clip bin into a timeline. Then load the Slug into the viewer, and give it a 1 second duration. Go to the first transition in your timeline and use the “F9-Insert Edit” key. If you than use the “arrow down – Next transition” key, and insert edit with the “F9” key again. Repeat this to your hearts content, and you should be able to move through the timeline faster.

Here is another option as well; in the User Preferences, set the multi-frame trim to 30, then use the ‘select all clips forward’ tool (tttt) and go through through the timeline selecting the clips in order and then hitting shift+end bracket. This will select everything after the clip and move it down a second and will do it in 2 quick strokes – one hand on the mouse and one on the keyboard and off you go… just one more way to do it, I am sure there are others.
