I just received a note from a friend, that I cant think of how to help:

In “Log and Capture”, the Capture/Input is set to “DV NTSC 48 kHz”. But if I import a file (like a clip from the “Capture Scratch” folder of our portable HD, that clip ends up having black bars on either side when it’s in the timeline. The black bars go just inside the inner line of the title safe lines (when you see the clip on the canvas). The same problem happens if I capture new video clips.

The one way I found to get around this is to set the Capture/Input to to “DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic” in the Capture Settings of “Log and Capture”. When I do this, there are no black bars but the video image goes way outside of the title safe bars. And if want to add video clips from our portable HD, those clips have the original problem with the black bars.

This footage is all shot on a Canon GL2 – I know GL1’s have some funky pixel issue when footage is imported, but I dont think that solves this prob…

Sounds like his sequence preset is wrong. That’s it’s set to anamorphic. What you’re describing happens when you place a 4:3 clip in a 16:9 sequence.

    All the best,

    Tom
