Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Black bars on Export

I dubbed an analog video source to my minidv camera. I then imported the footage via firewire into Vegas.

There were slight vertical black bars on either side of the video that was imported so I zoomed in just enough to cut then off. My new project dimensions were 706.6×471.1. Doing the math, it seems the aspect stayed the same at 3:2.

I then rendered the final project as “Video for Windows (*.avi)” with “NTSC DV” as the template (unmodified). When I playback in windows media player, I get equally-sized horizontal black bars on either side(i’m estimating at about 15pixels/lines wide). When I look at the properties of the video file, it says 720×480. The video doesn’t look squeezed, however it may be so slight that it just doesn’t show visually.

One thing I noticed which I only mention because I am relatively new to vegas and am not completely sure what it means is that in the Preview box, the “Display” dimensions are different at 327x240x32. Again, not sure if this is significant.

I would like the video to completely fill the frame upon rendering so there are no black bars. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I think that this is a player issue, because after playing the file in VLC Player and Quicktime, I realized that each player has it’s quirks and WMP probably just adds the black spacers for the “user experience” or something.

My method of testing that the video was indeed not letterboxed was to reimporting the rendered avi file back into vegas in a new project. It displayed correctly. It also displayed fine in VLC player, no letterboxing.

    Thanks anyway
