Black bars in video 2880 x 2160
Hey – I’m having a problem with my mp4 files having black bars on the sides in the editor and when rendered (sorta like old YouTube videos) my files are 2880 x 2160 and originally mp4. They are fine and full screen when not edited.
I’ve tried custom resolution and rendering with different settings, cinemascope, 1080p, 4k, but it seems to make it worst, or be widescreen. Am I missing something basic? I apologize if the question is silly, I’ve just returned to making videos after a long absence.
I just want them to be full screen, unless that degrades the quality. Thanks!

what is your timeline set to?
If you are on a 1080 timeline or a UHD timeline, you need to setup your frameflex to achieve full screen raster, as your files are not in the 16:9 format…effectively doing some sort of crop to achieve a full screen raster.Did you shoot this with anamorphic lens’? This can change how you have to handle the footage as well.

This is why i love Davinci Resolve, resolution, and aspect ratio, give you full controll in an easy way, before loading, and dragging in the timeline, you need to set your resolution, and aspect ratio, then below the viewing area, you can adjust “crop” and “transform” (pull down arrow) which one is needed in your case, the black and dark grey area’s are the indications, of what is in your “frame” or not, also check the format again when you “deliver”.
also, at “delivery” you can still adjust the aspect ratio factor, x and y are default “linked”, clicking on the link symbol, will un-link this,( if needed for anamorphic)
Most of the time it’s experimenting with short clips to see if the result is what you had hoped for.—
